I can't find a company

    1 min read

A company can be missing because it is outside the dates you searched, a filter is hiding it, or it was registered only moments ago. Work through the checks below.

    1. Look it up directly

Use the free company search to look up any UK company by name, number or postcode. If you know the company number, you can go straight to its profile at /company/ followed by the number.

    2. Check the date range

Search New Companies previews companies registered in the last 30 days. A company registered earlier will not appear there. Try Established Companies instead.

    3. Check your filters

    • Sector: companies choose their own SIC code and some pick a vague one. Try a broader sector or "Company name contains". See Sectors and SIC codes.
    • Location: a company registered at a formation agent's address is left out of location searches. A company whose registered office is elsewhere will not show for the town it trades in. See Filter by location.
    • Contactable by post only and Hide shells both remove companies. Untick them to test.

    4. Allow time for new registrations

New companies usually appear within a day of registering, and many other changes show up the same day they are filed. If it was registered very recently, check again later. See How fresh is the data?

    5. Check the alert side

If the company is missing from an email rather than a search, see My alert email did not arrive and More companies matched than the email showed.
