Where does the data come from?

What are SIC codes and categories?

SIC (Standard Industrial Classification) codes are used by Companies House to categorise what a company does. We group these into plain English categories like 'Restaurants & Cafes' or 'Tech & Software' so you don't need to know the codes.

Every company comes with its registered office address and the names of its active directors, straight from Companies House. That is what exists for a brand new company, and it is enough to write to the right person by post. Very few companies have a website, email address or phone number in their first weeks, so we never guess them. Where we can verify a website against the company's own registration number, we show it along with any email or LinkedIn page published on that site.

How do the free limits work?

Every plan includes unlimited company profiles and searches. The free plan is limited on monitoring rather than browsing: 1 saved search, a weekly digest, and up to 5 new companies a week. Pro adds 10 saved searches, daily and instant alerts, and CSV export - and every new account starts with a 14 day Pro trial with daily alerts switched on.

Can I export data?

Yes - Pro and Business plans include CSV and Excel export so you can download your company profiles and import them into your CRM or mailing list. The Free plan lets you view company profiles in-app and via email only.

Can I buy a list without subscribing?

Yes. If you are not on Pro, every export point offers a one-off list instead: 10p a company with a £10 minimum, paid by card, with the CSV or Excel file available to download for 30 days. It carries the same columns as a Pro export, including the registered address and a named director for the FAO line. Pro at £29 a month works out cheaper than one list a month, and adds daily alerts and unlimited exports.

Is there a free trial?

Yes - every new account starts on a 14 day Pro trial with no credit card required. When it ends you move to the free plan automatically, and nothing is deleted: your first saved search keeps running and any extra searches are paused until you upgrade.

Can't I just use Companies House for free?

Accepted Answer

You can. Companies House advanced search lets you filter by SIC code, incorporation date and registered office, for free. What it cannot do is remember your search or tell you when something new matches it. NewcoHunter adds saved searches, plain-English sector categories, location filtering, shell company detection, and daily or weekly email digests - so the monitoring runs itself instead of being a manual check every week.

How quickly do new companies appear?

New company registrations typically appear in NewcoHunter within 24-48 hours of being filed at Companies House. We ingest new incorporations daily.

Is it legal to contact newly registered companies?

Accepted Answer

Yes. All company registration data is publicly available Crown Copyright information under the Open Government Licence. Contacting a business using its publicly registered details is generally lawful under UK GDPR's legitimate interests basis for B2B communications. You should still follow best practices for professional outreach.
