Filter by location

On Search New Companies, the Location section lets you tick regions and cities, or type a postcode area or district. Location is optional and you can combine it with any sector.

    Choose a place

    • Regions: tick one or more from the list.
    • Cities: tick any cities shown below the regions.
    • Postcode area or district: type something like M1, SW1A or BS in the box marked "Or a postcode area or district". Use this when a region is too wide.

Ticking several places means a company matching any of them is included.

    What location means

A company's location is its registered office address, the address held at Companies House. That is not always where the business trades. A company run from home may register at the owner's house, and some register at an accountant's or a formation agent's address.

Addresses used by company formation agents are left out of location searches and alerts, so a search for your town is not filled with companies that merely use a mailbox there. See What we filter out.

    Tips

    • Start with a region, then switch to a postcode district if you want to be more local.
    • If a search returns nothing for the last 30 days, widen the place or add a sector.
    • If you only want companies you can write to, switch on "Contactable by post only" (details).

    How you know it worked

The preview lists the newest matches with their town and postcode next to each name, so you can see at a glance that they are in the right area.
