Shrinking signals: businesses getting smaller
The Shrinking family covers businesses that appear to be getting smaller: cutting costs, consolidating or losing people. Some of them review their suppliers as a result.
Signals in this family
- Net assets down
- Director left
- Went dormant
Who finds it useful
Examples: turnaround and cost-reduction consultants, recruiters, outsourcing providers, and buyers of assets and equipment.
What it does not mean
Shrinking does not mean failing. A smaller balance sheet can follow a dividend, a restructure or the sale of part of the business. A director leaving can be a routine handover.
How to use it
Use the shrinking companies page or choose "Currently declining" in the established-company search at /companies. Pair it with a sector and area filter so the list stays relevant.
